Cassel, July 29th, 1853.

Having been absent five weeks, and returned from London only a few days ago, I could not anwer your last letter before this.
The two last invoices of your studies give pleasant proofs of your progress. I could, therefore, with a good conscience, write the inclosed testimonial.1 Do not neglect now to procure the further means for the continuation of your studies. Also profit by the time you stay in Munich to complete your theoretical studies, for even your last compositions were not quite correct. If you obtain a continuation of your stipend, or if you can obtain the means to stay next winter in Cassel, I am most willing to examine your works and to let you have the benefit of my advice and experience.
