My dear & honoured Friend
I had the great mortification of being unable to hear the Oratorio1 last night.
On Sunday I began to feel my right foot very painful, and yesterday I could scarcely put it to the ground – so that, most reluctably, I was compelled to give up my anticipated pleasure, and to rest quietly here.
This morning I feel less pain, & hope, by rest, to be able to meet you at Mercers Hall.
I am very anxious to know what you thought of the performances, and am
