I am desired by the Directors of the Philharmonic Society to express their regret that owing to the very secure losses sustained during the late and second preceding seasons, they have it not in their power to make you any pecuniary offer, but that should you have any new Compositions likely to send their ensuing Concerts, they shall have much pleasure in the performance of them to the best of their ability.

Das letzte erhaltene Schriftstück dieser Korrespondenz ist eine Quittung von Spohr für die Philharmonic Society London, 22.06.1840. Der nächste erhaltene Brief dieser Korrespondenz ist Watts an Spohr, 27.12.1841, demzufolge Spohr die Frage nach einer neuen Komposition zwar nicht an Watts, sondern in dem derzeit verschollenen Brief Spohr an Ignaz Moscheles, 12.12.1841 beantwortete.
Das Kopierbuch datiert diesen Brief abweichend vom Autograf auf den 24.10.1841; außerdem ging ein gleichlautender Brief an Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
